Martin Scorsese's touch, great costumes and a fine cast couldn't save this movie about unrequited love set in the prudish nineteenth century American society from being an utter bore. Love tales from the Elizabethan era (e.
G. 'Shakespeare in Love') were a lot more interesting. Avoid.
