Review of The Age of Adaline (2015) by Panos Y — 16 Oct 2017
Just not quite buying it. Freak events make this woman immortal - she spends 80 (?) years behaving like she has broken the law - like she has the guiltiest conscience of all time - she runs and hides like she is ashamed of something.
She seems to have the wisdom of an old person but not when it comes to the most basic foundation of her existence as she understands it. Ultimately it just feels like one huge contrivance - I guess for tear-jerking purposes.
And then the hugest contrivance of all - the exact reversal of circumstance that started the phenomenon - ends it. It was an okay production, generally not obnoxious or anything. Reasonably tasteful. But just not buying in.
4.8 out of 10.
