Review of The African Queen (1952) by Gavin S — 22 Aug 2012
Bogie and Hepburn. I could simply leave it at that. They are the entire movie, with only a few lines and appearances by any other humans. Humphrey Bogart won his only Oscar in 3 noms, and Katharine Hepburn was nominated one of her 12 times.
John Huston directs the 2 legends in their only film together, adapted from the CS Forester novel, in a trip down an African river at the start of WWI. Shot mostly on location in Africa, it's a triumph of the human spirit and will (and luck) as well as a romance.
A classic, 60 yrs later, just as popular.
