Review of The African Queen (1952) by Sanford R — 30 Aug 2009
I never thought I'd say this about a Humphrey Bogart movie, but I didn't like it. And I don't know what it was about the film, but it was impossible to pay attention to. Bogart winning the Oscar for this role.
..I won't take that away from him. He was a versatile actor (he needed that award at least for his body of work) and this was a side of him I've never seen before. But I personally liked him most in The Caine Mutiny.
..perhaps it was his chemistry with Katherine Hepburn. To me, it just wasn't working! Ahh...Katherine Hepburn, she must be the source of all my frustration. She was a wonderful actress, but her performances are a hit/miss for me, and this was a miss.
