Review of The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) by Irish E — 26 Jul 2010
Perhaps it is because I read Howard Pyle's book last night. This version of Robin Hood did not captivate me as I thought that it would.
The parts that made up this film were good. The cast was made up of actors that I enjoy. Errol Flynn, as Robin Hood, was charismatic as always. The music was appropriate. Etc. When you put them all together, it lacked something. I can not put my finger on it. It teetered somewhere between average and pretty good. It lacked the greatness that I had expected.
Next time, I will read the book the night after I watch a film, not the night before. I really think that is what spoiled this for me.
