Review of The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) by Kiko E — 17 Jul 2014
Robin Hood; The original income redistributer . Released in 1938, the movie holds up really well. It's an old school action/adventure epic that Hollywood used to love to make. The swordplay scenes are very well done.
The action looks fluid even when it's chaotic and there's too much going on onscreen at once. The remastered version looks amazing, the colors pop out. I don't wanna use the term swashbuckling because it sounds cliche bur that's the best way to describe this film.
The original leading man Erroll Fynn and his band of merry men go up against the odious Prince John. The mix of comedy and action adventure was an inspiration to many action blockbusters. It's a classic.
And still the best movie adaptation of the English folktale( sorry Sean Connery and Russell Crowe).
