Amazingly funny and surprisingly disarming road movie featuring a transexual (Stamp) and two transvestites (Pearce and Weaving) traveling through the Australian bush (er, no pun intended) to a cabaret gig in Alice Springs, and all the their zany adventures along the way.

Of course, with any film dealing with drag queens, the camp-meter goes off the charts, but in spite of the broad characterizations, the actors manage to fully flesh out their roles beyond the usual stereotypes.

Stamp is particularly good in what can only be described as a difficult role as Bernadette, given his booming voice - but his mannerisms as a lady are spot-on. Also, it's terrific to see Pearce and Weaving in these smaller, more gutsy roles, before they made it big in Hollywood.
