Review of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) by Manuel A — 04 Aug 2010

Iâ??ve seen this movie so many time but never from start to finish.

The movie blends comical episodes from a bunch of drag queens trying to tackle the Ozzy outback with some more darker moments to sober you up, giving you a insight into the negative side of being Gay and not being accepted as an outsider by â??normalâ?? folk. It also shows off the stunning landscape of Australiaâ??s wild expansive plains.

For me Guy Pearce is the show stopper with a brilliant performance, a role not bettered in my eyes until his appearance in the Christopher Nolan epic Memento (equally thrilling performance in LA Confidential and The Proposition along side Ray Winston) and a million miles away from his humble roots in everyoneâ??s favourite Oz TV show Neighbours (Personally itâ??s not a patch on Round The Twist).

Great performances coming in the way of Terence Stamp, Hugo Weaving and a superb cameo from Bill Hunter.

You donâ??t really think about Australia being a hot bed of movie making but actually some fine films have come from down under and this is no exception.
