Review of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) by Sameen M — 13 Feb 2013
The first time I saw this film I was ten years old. I was old enough to know what I wanted to see and too young to see those items. For this reason I was avoiding film in its entirety until I could see what I wanted.
One night I was just minding my own business surfing the channels, when all of a sudden I switched to a channel at random and I was met with a scene of the desert that caught my attention. I stayed for a while but due to some very confusing (more ways than one) scenes.
I turned it off. It phased me man. I was freaked out. Seeing as how at the time when I already wasn't into movies, a film about transsexuals in a school bus in the middle of the outback preforming some pretty unique performances was not the gateway I needed back into film.
I avoided film yet again for a few more years. Then I saw a copy of this and remembered the trauma and decided to give it another shot. (I was thirteen at the time) This movie changed my life. I had never been familiar with transsexuals, transvestites or homosexuals and really this changed my mind frame and my world view.
If it wasn't for this film I doubt I would be as open and outgoing as I am now. I like this movie for more than the fact that is it spectacular. I like it for the moral and emotional attachment I have with it and for it.
YEAH! PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT YEAH!
