I can recall the first time I ever watched this movie. There was a local Duel Video store in Asheboro, NC. My family would always go there instead of the Blockbuster because they had a 5/5/5 (5 movies for 5 days for 5 dollars) deal that was common for local video stores at the time.

Prior to going, I had saw an interview in which Patrick Swayze had mentioned that he was going to star in a movie as a drag queen on a cross-country trip. It turns out that movie was Too Wong Fu, Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar, but at the time, I didn't know that, and neither did the video store clerk for that matter.

When we asked him about it, he acted clueless and told us that maybe we were mistaking it for this film. We rented it, got home and popped it in, and at first, we weren't even really sure what the heck was going on, but as soon as it got to the infamous ping pong ball scene, we knew we had found a classic.

I've probably watched this movie over a hundred times since that first viewing, and every time I do, I find something new to love about it. It's an incredibly deep film, and you would never be able to know that without multiple viewings.

Nowadays, I recommend it to everyone I know. All in all, it's a perfect independent movie, and I've yet to see a movie take me by surprise like this one has. Enjoy it!
