Review of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949) by Luis G — 23 Oct 2011
I don't really get why these two stories were put together, and even less the order they are told, but this is one of the more memorable Halloweeny animated features I remember from my youth. While "The Wind in the Willows" portion is good in itself, and it provides a few chuckles, the "Sleepy Hollow" part is what really stands out.
Spooky imagery, classic song storytelling, and excellent vocal performances by Bing Crosby make for a perfect package. It's Disney and not too evil, but there's something about the way the timeless tale of Ichabod is told that still really gets me in that scary mood.
