Review of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949) by Zack P — 14 Aug 2012
The Sleepy Hollow segment was, to me at least, the superior of the two. I like old American legends, and I like legends of Halloween, so I've always been interested in that story, and this adaptation of it is pretty good. The chase sequence between Ichabod and the horseman in particular is pretty damn spectacular. So it's enjoyable enough, even if the characters are generally unlikeable and some of the spirit of the original story is lost (like the vague ending).
Mr. Toad on the other hand...meh, it was okay I guess. Never held a strong interest in the character personally though, so it didn't do a whole lot for me. It was cute enough though, and it's climax held some delightful bits of that classic Disney animation.
