Review of The Adventures of Huck Finn (1993) by Christopher S — 22 Sep 2011
One of the better adaptations of the classic Mark Twain novel I have seen. The casting was OK but I thought it could have been better. Elijah Wood at the time was an up and coming actor and while he did a solid job as the eponymous character, I thought someone with an edge could have done it better.
This was especially true when Brad Renfro played Huck in Tom and Huck and his portrayal of Huck was much better than Wood's. However, Ron Perlman was perfect as the drunken and volatile Pap. Perlman definitely captured the essence of Pap better than anyone I had seen prior.
Stephen Sommers's primary message in this film was friendship and trust and he definitely delivered on both throughout the film. However, this film could have been much better in regards to pacing and casting.
