Review of The Adventures of Ford Fairlane (1990) by Scott R — 24 Dec 2010
I remember watching this for the first time around 1997 or 1998. Throughout the entire movie, I was laughing so hard I was out of breath. To me and everyone I knew it was a new kind of comedy, unseen and unheard of until Andrew Dice Clay brought it onto the silver screen.
My friends and I are still quoting Ford Fairlane and Jazz (Lauren Holly), because in its time this movie was genius. Pure genius. SPOILER ALERT: Fairlane has the perfect 90's arrogant womanizing attitude, although converting into "Jazz monogamy" at the end.
So - it's not just a cheesy L.A. detective story, it's also a love story between Ford and Jazz - and a pretty good one at that. And Priscilla's appearance is simply priceless - hey, a rock'n'roll detective movie featuring the former wife of Elvis? You can't go wrong there! There's just no way! The feel of the movie, the director's touch, the talent.
.. they got it going on. But don't take my word for it - and nevermind the negative feedback - watch it for yourself in a 1990s context, and you'll see what I mean!
