Review of The Advanced Guard (1998) by Sergio E — 22 Aug 2010
There's a lesson here for aspiring filmmakers: if you're going to make a cheap, schlocky, B-grade sci-fi flick, the least you can do is make it with your tongue firmly in your cheek.
And that's something you can say for The Colony; there's absolutely no suggestion that anyone should take it seriously.
A lesson that viewers can learn is that being in love can make you susceptible to mind control. That could be useful to know, of course, if you have doubts about whether your partner is really in love with you, you could get some aliens to see if they can control his or her mind. If it works, they're in love. If not, dump 'em, I guess.
