Review of The Adjustment Bureau (2011) by Don M — 23 Jan 2014
I liked this movie a lot but that might just be because I'm a sucker for romance.
The Adjustment Bureau is the kind of film that makes me think extra hard about miniscule events in my life. The film makes you think "what if". What if our society was controlled by an almost unnoticeable governing body? What if I took local instead of the freeway? What if I didn't bust out that sweet spin move on the dance floor?
I thought the prolonged chase at the end of the movie was a bit long for my taste but even before that I thought the film started to get a little cheesy. That is all the "bad" I really have to say about the film. The speed of the cinematography was eye catching and for the most part fast pace. The acting and dialog had me seeking to know more about our main characters and the bureau. But once again I'm a helpless romantic so the playful banter had me resting my elbow in front of me as my chin rested in my palm with a slight head tilt. I just couldn't not find it adorable.
The message that I took from the movie was to have trust in people and their decisions. People might not make the correct choice but THAT is how we learn, by making mistakes. It reminds me of when I moved to Los Angeles. The month before moving out it appeared as though my parents would not allow me to do anything. They would do everything for me because they were scared for me. Terrified in the fact that I'm going into the "real world" and not just that but 2,000 miles away. But in order for me progress I thought it as a way for me to develop, a way to make me better. By showing the world what else I have to offer and vice versa.
