Review of The Addams Family (1991) by Kimball Y — 02 Aug 2008
As a kid, I liked this movie because I found it so creepy and demented. In a way I felt I shouldn't have been allowed to watch it, and that made it so much better. But, as I watch it as an adult, I find that I like it for a different reason: It's funny as hell! Every actor does such a good job of playing these characters straight, that it makes it much funnier than if they had half assed it.
Raul Julia gets so into the role of Gomez that I don't think I'll ever be able to picture him in any other role. The one problem though, is that there's not enough interaction between the Addam's family and the outside world.
There's a bit at the end, and it's funny, but there's not enough of it. Great film though. One of my favorite TV adaptations. Sonnenfeld really took great care in giving this film style and art direction.
