Review of The Act of Killing (2012) by Nicholas W — 29 Jul 2013
Very good but you could tell the pacing was heavily influenced by the producers Werner Herzog and Errol Morris, who I'm sure the director idolizes. It is SLOW. It also lacks a lot of context I would have liked to see included about the political and ethnic massacres effectively sanctioned by the U.
S. government. This is also not the film the director wanted to make but had to settle for because filming the survivors was politically too dangerous. Still, it is a brilliant almost self-portrait of a mass murderer, Anwar Congo, trying to maintain his sanity as he processes what he did.
Karma's a bitch.
