Review of The Act of Killing (2012) by Jared M — 15 Feb 2014
It's hard to put into words what it is about this film that gets so deep under your skin. Maybe it's the fact that the story is almost literally told by the killers who are observed in this documentary, which establishes a lack of attempted gloom or pathos and a haunting display of nonchalance and guiltlessness from the killers.
"The Act of Killing" gets especially stunning and powerful when the murderer the film mainly focuses on finally sees through the eyes of his victims, and we soon realize how unimaginably oblivious and desensitized he and his friends have become through means of violence.
You really don't know how to feel after watching it.
