Review of The Act of Killing (2012) by Kate H — 25 Mar 2014
I've read of this film being described as a fever dream and I guess the description fits. It's certainly and odd film. A bunch of gangsters reenact their murders during the 1960s in the style of their favourite films.
It is surreal and disturbing. For me it was one of the last ones that really got me with a teddy bear standing in for an infant. It's actually all gut wrenching and even the gangsters and old death squad leaders aren't sure about what they've done anymore.
Give it a watch if you've been thinking of it. If you pick the director's cut get comfy, it's a bit long at points. Also I really wish they hadn't picked white to be the colour of the english subtitles.
Considering everyone was wearing light clothing it made for very hard reading.
