It’s fair to expect some horrid deaths here, but it’s what you don’t see that gives you the sense of horror—as a traditional horror film should be. It is very clearly a product of the early 1970s with its set designs and overall art direction, which are worth seeing in themselves.
Dr Phibes talking behind his mask, almost narrating his actions, is spooky and camp at the same time. Fab stuff.
