Review of The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) by Blais E — 10 Mar 2011
Uncle Vinnie has a field-day here as brilliant-but-disturbed Dr. Anton Phibes, survivor of a horrible car accident which took his beloved wife, Victoria and severely disfigured his countenance, leaving his face a shrivelled death's-head.
The movie details the imaginative and darkly creative ways ( The Plagues visited upon the Pharoah by Moses-) he utilizes to murder the doctors he holds responsible for not saving his wife. Featuring stupendous art direction and set design, in particular Phibes's suterranean lair, and a fine cast of recognizable British character faces in various and sundry roles as his unfortunate victims.
