Review of The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) by Matt C — 22 Jul 2013
I'm never quite convinced by horror/comedy and this is no exception. Despite the heavyweight presence of Price and the ridiculously underused Cotten this has it's moments but never enough to be an overall success.
Some of the themed murders are particularly ingenious but the film as a whole drags in too many sections to be considered a success. You can certainly see however how films such as 'Se7en' and 'Saw' must have drawn inspiration from the central concept though.
