Review of The ABCs of Death (2013) by Pablo G — 17 Jun 2014
As expected, this anthology feels completely uneven as many directors create shorts that take horror to different placers, some going for a more dramatic aproach, others simply going for violence, and it makes it almost necesary to watch this film by intervals.
Now, the segments vary in quality and creativity, and I was dissapointed to see how many of these segments feel either mediocre or just plain dumb. A few segments stand out due to their brilliance and actual focus on horror, but others feel like a wasted oportunity, and then there are the others that feel completely out of place.
Its annoying sometimes to see that some of these segments try to present a story when you only have about 7 minutes to entretain the audience, and then there are the others that just do anything they can to fill in those miserable 7 minutes (more or less).
Its uneven, sometimes just disgusting, other times boring, other times not even terryfying, and the segments that are worth watching are probably things you could look up on youtube instead of wasting 2 hours in this madness as it ultimately feels like an example of what not to do with short films and why some of them can be so charming and terryfying in their own short way; this is just not the case.
