Review of The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) by Michael B — 18 Jan 2008
Another favorite film from special-effects wizard Ray Harryhausen (I only have four favorites), and also another princess to add to my list of my favorite movie princesses - The Princess Parisa (as I said, it might seem strange to you folks but... that's me). Also, as I said before, I'm starting to love fantasy movies (animated or live action) set in Arabia. I would like to point out and inside-joke I have found in the film : The villian, the magician Sokurah almost sounds like "Sakura" which is Japanese for "cherry-blossom.".
In the film, Kerwin Matthews stars as the legendary sailor. To save Princess Parisa (who has been shrunk down to the size of a thumb) from the evil Sakourah (Torin Thatcher), Sinbad must battle several fabulous monsters,to get piece of a Roc's egg shell to restore Parisa to normal size; and with a little help from the genie of the lamp, Bronni (thought the magic lamp is from the story of Aladdin, and also I have read the original adventures of Sinbad). The monsters include a cyclops, and a dragon. He also fences against an animated skeleton. The dragon died, Sinbad rescued his princess. Anything else I would like to say about this film, is that it is an excellant film, with thrilling action/adventure,romance and wonderful music too.
