Review of The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) by Jérôme V — 14 Aug 2009
Well, that's the kind of perfect flick for a pop-corn evening! Great adventure, really! In fact, the scenario have aged rather well compare to the special effects! Althought Ray Harryhausen's creatures in stop motion have a certain charm, indeed (truth be told, it's like loving Tod Browning's Dracula: we're not afraid but we are taken by the mood!).
But it was those times in cinema history when showing you've got high budget was to show great set design (they could put to shame some recent movies!) and costumes (again!). But the real hero to me was'nt the cast, nor the director, not even Harryhausen even if they did all a good job.
No, the best thing in this flick is the soundtrack written by Bernard "Psycho" Hermann. Truly, a masterpiece, it is really modern and evocative.
