Review of The 5th Wave (2016) by Milton P — 01 Feb 2016
Well done characters, a plot twist that 100% of the audience anticipates, lovely Chloe again and again, but limited by cinematography and camera placements from Hell.
Kids doing "Independence Day" is pretty much the whole of it. The FX guys stole ID's alien spacemobile and blacked out the lights to make a difference.
But I loved it.
The sci-fi didn't matter. The alien threat didn't matter. What the director and the cast delivered was a world with acceptable, naturally presented characters.
We go to apocalypse films the way others go to horror movies. We don't need big surprises. We do want to see "real" characters and this "5th Wave" concoction delivers full value.
"Independence Day Light." Better title, eh?
