Review of The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. (1953) by Caleb M — 07 Oct 2011
The 5,000 Finger of Dr. T is unlike any film you've ever seen. It's bizarre, terrible, amazing and fantastical. Unfortunately, you can tell that the budget just wasn't sufficient for the scale attempted here, and Dr.
Seuss's involvement in the finished screenplay was probably minimal, compared to what any advertising today would want you to think. If Suess had been more involved and if the production had been given more money to play with, this could have become a grand fantasy on the scale of The Wizard of Oz.
As it is, it's a lot of fun as a crazy Hollywood misfire, full of good intentions and kitschy nonsense.
