Review of The 39 Steps (1935) by Wendy B — 13 May 2009
My mother had this on VHS when I was growing up, but I never got a chance to sit and watch the whole movie until recently. And I'm glad I did. Robert Donat is hysterical in his role as Richard Hannay, a man falsely accused of murder.
His on-the-run hijinks take him into Scotland, where he has a "passionate" encounter with Madeline Carroll on the train, and to where he makes a hilarious impromptu speech at an assembly hall.
This movie is one of the reasons why I enjoy Hitchcock movies so much. :).
