I must have seen this film about twenty times now, but it still gives me as much pleasure as when I first saw it. It is my without doubt my favourite Hitchcock film because it is so perfect. The acting, pacing and direction are simply sublime, and the script sparkles throughout.
Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll have such an amazing chemistry as the mannacled pair at the heart of the story that it is impossible not to warm to them both, and to positively glow at the final shot where they (voluntarily) join their hands for the first time.
