Review of The 39 Steps (1935) by Peter C — 08 May 2010
An early Hitchcock film, The 39 Steps already has some of the director's trademarks. The cute blond, the grim humor, and the double meanings are all in place. Robert Donat reminds me of Vincent Price in the lead, looking very much like he just stepped out of a silent picture (which of course were just a few years past at this point).
The pacing is brisk and the script clever. Well worth giving a look.
