Review of The 39 Steps (1935) by Late R — 19 Mar 2018
A step in the direction Hitchcock would take in his journey towards Hollywood. The caper may seem tame in today's standards, but the plot still brings disaster. The subtle moments are all there when you sit down and see it for yourself.
It's a surprise why this film has not been as memorable as his later films as it works as an old timey thriller. It may have had an influence on the modern take of film noir, packed with a true element of surprise.
