Review of The 39 Steps (1935) by Anthony B — 12 Mar 2012
An innocent man on the run outwits spies and beds half the women in Ireland in Hitchcock's first great film. This film was absolutely revolutionary in its time. It doesn't entirely hold up (the plotline is comically simple), but its witty dialogue and snappy, engaging pace set an example that today's filmmakers still struggle to live up to.
