Review of The 33 (2015) by Candace L — 27 Oct 2015
This is an incredible movie! It tells two stories. The first story is of the harrowing ordeal and struggle for survival that the thirty-three Chilean miners faced as they were trapped far below the earth's surface for more than 60 days.
The second story takes place above ground and illustrates what life was like for the families of the miners as they awaited news of their loved ones survival and rescue. The ensemble cast from around the world is extraordinary.
Antonio Banderas is a force to be reckoned with as Mario, the miner who used his energy to keep everyone alive and to instill hope that they all would leave the mine together. Juliette Binoche, Lou Diamond Phillips, Gabriel Byrne, and others all give strong performances.
This movie is suspenseful and inspirational. It is a true testament to the power of family and faith and how that power saved not only thirty-three men trapped in mine, but their friends and family as well.
