Review of The 33 (2015) by Tiemen S — 12 Nov 2015
Starring Juliette Binoche and Antonio Banderas, this well-written phenomenal movie is based on the true story of the 2010 Chilean mine collapse. It tells the story of how 33 men defied history and belief when they were all rescued alive after being buried alive and trapped underground for 69 days.
Shot on location in Colombian mines and in the mountainous Chilean desert, this movie tells the tale of the catastrophic explosion that led to the collapse of 100-year old gold and copper mine which resulted in 33 men being buried alive 200 stories beneath the ground. Over the next 69 days an international team worked day-and-night in a desperate attempt to rescue the men as their family and friends, along with the entire world, watched on in horror as hopes began to fade.
In excruciating 90 degree heat, with only enough food to last 3 days, the men overcame the rising tensions and the extreme hunger and defied all that doubted their resilience. This heart wrenching and gripping movie is a story of survival at it's best. Definitely worth a watch or two.
