Review of The 300 Spartans (1962) by Sean C — 02 Sep 2007

I know it's dated and how much historical accuracy can you ask for from a Hollywood movie, but this was pretty terrible. I tried to watch just as camp, but I couldn't do it. The Spartans don't seem like they were born to be great warriors right from childhood.

The guy who plays Leonidias is a terrible actor, the Persians don't look Persian, the way the way the American actors spoke the dialogue was annoying. By the way, I noticed that they refer to Jove at least a few times in the movie, but Jove is the Roman mythological name for Zeus who was Greek mythology.

The Greeks were first, there was no Jove yet. Too bad but Frank Miller's 300 is way better.
