Review of The 13th Warrior (1999) by Calum H — 08 Jan 2010
LOVE this movie! Directed by the superb John McTiernan of Predator,Lethal Weapon fame, this is based on Michael Crichton's book Eaters Of The Dead. A small group of funny, feisty, lovable rogue Viking warriors are sent on a mission to save a town from evil cannibals.
A seer tells them they must send 13 warriors to have a chance to succeed. A noble Muslim visitor shown in a positive light throughout refreshingly and beautifully played by Antonio Banderas is forced to make up the numbers.
His characters grows throughout the movie and great friendships are made. Loads of Viking lore including the legendary Viking Prayer before the final battle, tons of action, not a second wasted!
