Review of The 13th Warrior (1999) by Anna A — 29 Jan 2010
This film is a joke... it could have been so much better, considering the other successful adaptations of Crichton novels.
Antonio Banderas plays an Arab, who speaks English with a Spanish accent... the Northmen seem to speak something like Russian, but suddenly halfway through the film, they too begin to speak English. It wouldn't have been as bad if they were are at consistent with the language.
But a worse problem... compared to the novel ("Eaters of the Dead") on which it was based, this film is practically G-rated. The novel is full of gore and sex and such... cutting all of this out destroyed one of the main aspects of the novel, ruining the development of the Northmens' characters.
