Bunuel's final film explores the dark side of human desire through romantic obsession and sado-masochism. Aside from the mind-blowing casting of two different actresses in the lead female role, the film is not as overtly surrealistic as the director's other well-known works, but it nonetheless bears his unmistakable stamp.
