Review of That Hamilton Woman (1941) by Neil F — 10 Feb 2015
Despite it's limitations as a "propaganda film" this movie has a great deal to offer movie lovers. Star power of two fine movie actors...it hits all the expected high notes of English national myth and also lays out the struggles, especially relevant today, of the true path to individual happiness.
Is it sacrifice to one's duty or the pursuit of the fulfillment persona love? At one point Lady Hamilton says "What's the good of being courageous if you know you are trapped, if you know you are wrong?" I am surprised this film isn't better known and loved by US audiences.
I'm glad I took the time to see it...if only to see Janet Leigh and Laurence Olivier show what Star power was all about in the 40s.
