Review of Thanks for Sharing (2013) by Marijon B — 22 Sep 2013
Cloudy with a chance of anvils. Bring your iron umbrella. This after-school special of a movie instructs us as to what to think and feel via corny montages and songs with simplistic lyrics, just in case we are really stupid and need a love song to tell us two people are falling in love, or a sad song to tell us people are sad.
The filmmakers really need to learn about "show, don't tell." Twelve step slogans too often replace real dialogue. The lead actors -- a dull Mark Ruffalo and an insipid Gwyneth Paltrow (I remember when she used to be good) are impossibly cutesy and seem to be aware that the camera is on their perfect faces and taught bodies, so they deck themselves out in their very sexiest underwear even when no one is supposed to be looking.
The brilliant Joely Richardson is wasted as a standard-issue wife and mother. The best thing about this film is the unique, edgy relationship between Dede and Neil played by Pink (Alecia Moore) and Josh Gad.
See the movie for them on the small screen but don't pay full price at a theater.
