Review of Thank You for Smoking (2005) by Connor _ — 16 Feb 2010
Jason Reitman is officially one of the best writers and directors in history. 'Up in the Air' is my all-tme favorite film, and this makes me love Reitman even more. A great adapted screenplay mixed with great acting from an all-star cast makes one great movie.
J.K. Simmons is great as the backstabbing boss of Aaron Eckhart, who also gave a decent performance. For their small roles, Bob Duvall, Rob Lowe, and Sam Elliott are fantastic, stealing their pretty much one-and-only scenes.
Maria Bello also gives a nod-worthy job as one of Eckhart's only two real friends, the other being David Koechner, who did very good as the gun-slinging firearms equivilant of Eckhart. The excellent screenplay portrays Eckhart, here representing cigarettes, without bias, like most other films would portray him as a bad guy.
Here, he is neither good nor bad, and more realistic. 8.7/10.
