Review of Tetro (2009) by Andrew C — 04 Sep 2009
Studios would rather see Francis Ford Coppola dish out three more Godfather movies rather than see him make movies on his own time, that inspire him. Tetro is such a remarkable piece of work that I could even forgive Coppola for casting that asshole Vincent Gallo, who plays the titular character. Tetro's estranged brother Bennie (Alden Ehrenreich) tracks him down in Buenes Aires. Tetro ignores him at first, but the two bond over their shared disdain of their composer father Carlo.
Shot in Argentina in glorious black and white cinematography by Mihai Malamaire, Coppola directs as if his career depends upon it, which of course means he invests it in genuine feeling.
