Review of Tetro (2009) by P. P — 12 Sep 2010
I had high hopes for this Coppola outing and ended up pretty disappointed. Vince Gallo is marvelous playing wounded slightly unhinged characters and I am usually a fan of old timey melodrama. But the shifts in tone from realistic to operatic were too abrupt and rendered the ending unintentionally funny.
The dance sequences were quite beautiful and that is saying something given I am rarely a fan of such things. But this movie failed to engage my deeper emotions - I was left feeling hollow by the end.
What happened to such searing movies as The Rain People or The Conversation? Sigh..
