After Imitation and The Theory of everything this was a total letdown. Emotions were conveyed by camera angles and occurences both improbable and impossible inserted. The director appeared to think the audience was comprised of idiots when in the closing scene an imaginary soldier was shown returning in tandem with a telegram boy approaching the house - a cliche for fatal news.
That typified the bludgeoning kind of handling to make such points as there were to be made.
