Review of Testament of Orpheus (1960) by Tim H — 14 Aug 2007
Wow. Okay, I didn't get why Blood of the Poet was in the Orphic trilogy box set until now. Sure, Orpheus and Blood of the Poet certainly have some common themes, most notably the immortaility and the supernatural nature of the artist, but Testament of Orpheus ties it all together.
The most shocking thing about this film is the faux-autobiographical nature of the film. Unlike Fellini's 8 1/2, Cocteau uses his real name, constantly breaking that fourth wall (and cites when he does it), allowing the audience to see his inner struggle.
