Review of Testament of Orpheus (1960) by J C — 06 Jan 2008
Much less enjoyable than any of his other films. I had trouble with this film because it was just Cocteau making a film about himself. Okay, I believe more than anyone that he was a true artistic genius, but when he writes a story about himself being beyond the natural boundaries of time and space, I begin to question his nerve.
There's no great plot, the creativity is much higher on other of his projects, and there's just way too much of him. Don't watch this movie unless you want to watch a couple hours of plotless self-appraisal by Cocteau.
