Review of Tess (1979) by Samantha R — 01 Dec 2007
While this adaptation of Hardy's wonderful novel is not without merit, I found it almost painful to watch after seeing a much better adaptation (1998 mini-series directed by Ian Sharp, with Tess played by Justine Waddell).
Although I am still reading through the novel, I have found areas where this particular adaptation does not do the book justice. In particular the way in which it distorts the the circumstances of the crucial, tragic event which forever changes Tess's life!
