Review of TerrorVision (1986) by Kayla K — 04 Jan 2009
There are few movies that have effected and affected me like the mighty TerrorVision. When I found this movie when I was 12, I loved loved loved it! I 33cent rented the heck out of that poor video that summer...
And then, I never saw it again. When I was younger I had an incredibly hard time telling the difference between dreams/fantasy/life. It's incredibly discombobulating not to know what is real. As I got older, I began to think I just made it up... after all, no one ever brought it up...
And then, out of no where it showed up on the Alamo Drafthouse's Terror Thursday line up! BAM! And, the print was more glorious than I had remembered! Love Love Love! It wasn't a dream! Treats were made! And a large part of me, a part I kind of forgot, came back.
I quickly got the video for my own, and it quickly reclaimed it's spot as one of my favorite movies.
Today, one year later, The drafthouse plays it again with one of the nicest and best actors, Jon Gries in attendance. (I had met him a week after the first time the drafthouse screened T.V., but briefly). This time I make a fist homage to his O.D. character which I brought up to him. This was quickly dismissed for the regular Q&A of vegetarian and horizontal vagina questions.
After I basked in the glory of the gleaming, vibrant print, he asked for me and I got to meet him and chat with him a bit. He gave me the biggest hug and thanked me, he said he'd seen pictures of my cupcakes and wanted a picture with me. Last year he had mentioned that he was in the worst place in his life when he made these 80s movies (that are all great great great)...I asked him if it bothered him to watch them and for a second he broke from his overwhelmed joyfulness to admit that it was really hard to watch these movies and see himself there again.
For me, it has also built up an amazing emotional charge, both bad, awkward, and euphoric. It's odd to feel that combination all at once.
The movie has too many of my favorite all time scenes, that I'd rather watch it with you Than re-write everything!

This is movie 4 of a metal horror movie marathon:
Even as over-watched and so deep into marathon land time, it is still fast paced and fun! I wish I had that monster to live in my house!
