Review of Terri (2011) by Ethan S — 30 Jun 2011
Quietly funny and sometimes strangely moving, Azazel Jacobs' low-key comedy works only as hard as it has to to work, and when I left the theater the film almost instantly left me. It is driven mostly by its two central performances; Jacob Wysocki plays the title character, an awkward teen with a soft heart; John C.
Reilly plays the principal who gives him purpose. The film is simplistic and its best moments come from quiet interactions. While the characters are compelling, the story doesn't really have any reason to exist.
It goes nowhere and says little, and probably would have made a better short film than a feature (SXSW 2011).
